Itinerary: Thessaloniki, Kalambata, Delphi, Athens
Day 1:
Arrive in Athens Greece and connect by air to Thessaloniki. Transfer to hotel for overnight.
Day 2:
Today we go sightseeing in Thessaloniki, where St. Paul preached in 49-50 AD. Visit the triumphal "Arch of the Roman Emperor Galerius", the "Via Egnatia", the "Cathedral of St Demetrius", and the Archaeological museum. Next we visit Philippi where Paul preached for the first time in Europe and baptized Lydia the first European Christian convert. We continue to the Roman prison where Paul and Silas were imprisoned. Continue to the port city of Kavala (ancient Neapolis), where Paul, Silas, Luke and Timothy, first set foot in Europe. Return to Thessaloniki for overnight.
Day 3:
Today we drive from Thessaloniki to Veria visiting "The Bema" where St. Paul preached and then on to Dion, the famous and sacred Macedonian town. We continue to Kalambaka for overnight.
Day 4:
From Kalambaka we visit Meteora to see the Byzantine Monasteries. Built in the 15th century on top of huge granite rocks by Christian Monks attempting to evade the Ottoman Turks. After visiting Meteora, we depart for overnight in Delphi.
Day 5:
Today we visit Delphi, the "Omphalos" (Navel) of the Earth. We visit the "Sanctuary of Apollo Pythios", the "Treasury of the Athenians", the "Temple of Apollo" and the Delphi Museum. We leave Delphi visit and return to Athens via Thermopylae, famous for the ancient battle that took place there. Overnight in Athens.
Day 6:
Depart for a half day guided tour of Athens. We see Constitution Square, the Parliament, the Presidential Palace, Hadrian's Arch, the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the marble Olympic Stadium. We visit the Acropolis (the museum and the site). We then drive to the Corinth Canal which connects the Aegean Sea with the Ionian Sea (short stop). Drive on and visit the Ancient Town of Corinth where St. Paul lived and preached for two years. We see the remains of the city including the Agora (market place) and Apollo's Temple (6th century B.C.). A short stop at the site of the Ancient Port of Cehries, where St. Paul disembarked will conclude the visit. Return to Athens for overnight.
Day 7:
Transfer to Athens airport for departure.
